There will be a public comment period at every meeting of the
President's New Freedom Commission on Mental Health. The public
comment period is an opportunity to voice your concerns directly
to the Commission. While you may speak to any relevant issue, please
remember that the Commission is specifically focused on its charge
from the President. Critical elements of that charge are outlined
below:
Assessment of the current quality and effectiveness of
Federal, State and local governments in the delivery of mental
health services to adults with a serious mental illness and/or
children with a serious emotional disturbance;
Identification and documentation of the unmet needs of
people with a serious mental illness or serious emotional disturbance;
Identification and documentation of barriers
to services for people with a serious mental illness or serious
emotional disturbance;
Identification and description, including
the location of innovative mental health treatments, services and
technologies that are demonstratively effective and can be replicated
in different settings;
Proposal of policy options that should be
implemented by the Federal, State and local governments, along with
private and public providers, to:
° Integrate the use of effective treatments
and services;
° Improve coordination among providers; and
° Improve community integration for people
with a serious mental illness or serious emotional disturbance.
